  • When folks in the 19th century built a barn, they’d often build using lumber from whatever trees were nearby. When we deconstruct barns, we often find a half-dozen or more species represented. Our Reclaimed Mixed Hardwood is our nose-to-tail offering, featuring ash, beech, red and white oak, hickory, chestnut, walnut, poplar, and everything in between. The result is a floor with varying grains and hues, and a true homage to the bones of an old barn.

  • There’s no secret to how we attain the rich, warm character of our original face yellow pine: take yellow pine lumber that’s been working for three or four generations, carefully salvage it, and don’t mess with it too much. This material wears its history right on the surface. Nail holes, knots, and a beautiful golden-brown patina make this material perfect for floors, walls, and everything in between.

  • Forests throughout Appalachia were once filled with American Chestnut, but a blight during the early 20th century wiped out billions of these regal trees. Put plainly, this stuff just doesn’t grow anymore, so we feel quite fortunate that we’re able to get our hands on chestnut we salvage from barns across the region.

  • This material is modern and sleek, but with a touch of character. The clean look of our rift and quartered white oak is married with occasional knots and varying grain patterns, creating a look that works just as well in a log cabin as in a modernist box.

  • We take special pride in salvaging white oak, which happens to be the state tree of our beloved Maryland. Salvaged from barns throughout Appalachia, our reclaimed white oak is hard, durable, and filled with the character you’d expect from centuries of service. This material exhibits nail holes, bug tracks, and knots, all displayed on a range of lovely tan hues.

  • Our live sawn red oak comes from the hardwood forests of Pennsylvania, considered by many to possess the finest hardwood lumber in the country. In live sawn material, the whole width of the log is used, often resulting in quartersawn fleck towards the edges of the board and gorgeous varying grain patterns towards the center.

  • Red oak has become a catch-all trade name associated with narrow strip flooring. Our stuff is different: milled from beams and boards salvaged from century-old barns, our red oak features beautiful tight grain, nail holes and surface checks, and a rich blend of soft red, pink, and amber hues.

  • Douglas Fir is the pride of the Pacific Northwest, and we are stoked that this material made the transcontinental trek to our shop. This material features striking grain patterns, nail holes, and occasional knots, all set against beautiful creamy pink tones. Doug Fir works beautifully as flooring or wall cladding, adding brightness to any space.

  • The Northeast was once home to massive stands of virgin white pine, and while the tree is still a prominent species in the region, less than one percent of old-growth white pine remains. Luckily, this beautiful material can still be found in 19th century barns, industrial buildings, and attics. Unlike commercially available white pine, our salvaged material features light pink and cream tones, along with knots, occasional bug tracks, and nail holes that attest to this material’s past.

  • This flooring comes from Baltimore rowhouses built between 1880 and 1910. Heart pine was the flooring of choice because it was economical but durable. We harvest the material, and make it available raw, skip planed, or fully planed. It can be used as it was originally intended, but it also makes for excellent feature wall or barn door material.

  • The beams we salvage from 19th century barns were often hand hewn, meaning they were sized into rough shape with axes and adzes. We preserve this textured and history-rich surface by sawing off the faces of century-old beams and creating a wall cladding that pays tribute to the work of yesteryear.

  • This material has earned a color that only comes after decades of withstanding sun, rain, and everything in between. We salvage barn siding from structures throughout the region, yielding a mix of poplar, oak, pine, chestnut, and hemlock. Our Gray Barn Siding is equal parts history and modernity, offering a lighter, sleeker alternative to traditional barnwood accents.

  • This is some special stuff, all salvaged from mushroom farms in Pennsylvania. Over time, enzymes in the mushroom soil eat away at the hemlock and cypress beds, creating a deeply contoured surface. We pressure wash and wire brush the once buried boards, revealing rich brown wood with a sculpted surface. Light and shadow play particularly well off this material, making it ideal for a dynamic accent wall.

  • When the flooring we salvage is too banged up to be used as flooring again, that doesn’t mean we can’t find a use for it. We mill the rough material, creating blanks that can be used for accent walls, parquet floors, countertops, or custom trim. The surface is up to you: we can leave it rough, plane it down, or quick-hit sand it.

  • We take our reclaimed Doug fir, and wire brush the original face, bringing out the dynamic grain while preserving the deep brown surface color. This material instantly warms up any space without being too overbearing.

  • We salvage this material from basketball courts whose days have been and gone. Scuffs and traces of three-point lines attest to the sporting past of this material. Maple is rock hard, so there’s plenty of life left in these boards.

  • Who in their right mind salvages lath? We do! These softwood strips were the unsung heroes of the home, bridging studs and joists to form a bed for plaster. This stuff is wonderfully versatile for craft projects, furniture making, and wall applications.

  • Maple is about as hard as they come, and that’s why it was often the flooring of choice for industrial buildings (and bowling alleys and basketball courts!) We salvage our maple from mills and factories along the industrial corridor from Richmond to New Haven, and it retains bright, creamy tones underneath centuries of dust and footfall.

  • The recipe for turning white pine into pumpkin pine calls for a coat of varnish, footfall, and plenty of time. We carefully extract original pumpkin pine flooring from 19th century houses, preserving the tongue and groove so it can be laid again. Starting out around 1 1/4″ thick, this material is equipped to withstand centuries of use.

  • Over 100 years ago, yellow pine was used to frame Baltimore rowhouses. Left untouched, these boards exhibit a gorgeous patina in brown and gray hues, accentuated by saw marks and nail holes that attest to their pedigree. When planed down, deep honey colors are revealed. This material is extraordinarily versatile: use it for flooring, accent walls, or table-tops.
